  1. What a treat it is to visit Tiri! Kokako are amazing, when I went years ago I was amazed how big they are! Surprised you got such a good shot of a kakariki (I didn’t think they’d sit still for long enough for you to get a clear shot!) They sure blend in with the colour of the cabbage trees! Really nice to see your pics.

    • Thank you! I’d never managed to take pics of kakariki before for the reason you say…but there were so many of them it would’ve been really disappointing not to get at least one decent pic. 😊 The only thing missing from the trip from a half-hearted dawn chorus…but that just means an excuse to go back again in future…

  2. Oh Graham I’m so envious. I’ve never seen a kokako on the ground but keep hoping. Isn’t it wonderful to see our native species doing what comes naturally without having to worry about being eaten by intruders.
Wonderful photos. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

    • Hi Wendy. Thanks for your comment. You’re so right. It really brings into sharp focus how much the mainland has been ravaged by invasive species (like humans…?) as everything seems so alive over there…mainland forests can often seem so quiet by comparison.
