It is pretty interesting what sort of things get imported into New Zealand. Sure, there are the usual worldwide brands you’d expect like Colgate toothpaste or Gillette razors, but there are also things that I find quite surprising…
A lot of left hand drive used cars are imported from countries like the UK and Japan. Some of the Japanese cars are not vehicles I have ever seen before and are just plain peculiar…such as the Nissan Cube which looks like it could have been designed using Lego…or the Nissan Tiida which is just plain ugly. Then you have the Toyota FunCargo…a tall-but-small car which looks neither fun nor able to carry much cargo.
When it comes to food, you get an interesting blend of Asian and European imports but whoever identified that there must be a demand for British pickled onion flavour Monster Munch I do not know…especially at a premium price! I like them…but not that much.
All said, it is nice to see familiar things, but it is also nice to try new things…because life would be pretty boring if you just did the same stuff over and over and over again.
