I had the pleasure of being on the South Island for the Christmas and New Year period and was surprised to find an open-air, free-to-attend Carol concert on Christmas Eve just outside Christchurch’s Transitional Cathedral (transitional as the original stone one was destroyed in the 2011 earthquake).
It was the 68th YMCA event…and there wasn’t a member of the Village People (or even a lookalike) in sight!
Quite entertaining…although I will be honest…I would probably not have gone if it were not for my wife!
Do take a look at the photo of the white chairs…there are 185 of them in all shapes and sizes (including baby seats and wheelchairs) just opposite the transitional cathedral in honour of those who died in 2011. Quite a poignant tribute.
